DENTAL CONTACT LENS – WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

DENTAL CONTACT LENS – WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

By Elizabeth Manguino ·

Do you know what dental contact lenses are?

They are very thin sheets of porcelain or resin, firmly cemented to the surface of the teeth that modify the appearance, improving color and shape, leaving smiles dazzling.

Why the name “Contact Lenses”?

They are called “contact lenses” because, like eye contact lenses, they are very thin, reaching less than 1mm thick.

In fact, until very recently it was not recommended as much because it was not yet possible to make these “contact lenses” without wearing down the teeth a lot. Over time, the materials, instruments and cements that are used to bond to teeth have evolved and today it is a great option for aesthetic dentistry.

What material is used in the Dental Contact Lens?

Dental contact lenses made from porcelain are more durable and do not stain with any type of food or cigarette smoke, unlike resin contact lenses which can eventually stain as they are more porous and less durable. The advantage of resin contact lenses is that they are cheaper and easier to repair.

Is there a dietary contraindication for the use of Dental Contact Lenses?

When made correctly and well cemented to the teeth, both types of contact lenses are safe, with no dietary contraindications, as they behave exactly like natural teeth. The fit with natural teeth is so perfect that people even forget that they are artificial pieces!

What should oral hygiene be like for those who have dental contact lenses?

Cleaning should be done as with natural teeth, taking great care in the use of dental floss and toothbrush, using non-abrasive toothpastes and always returning to your dentist every year for a general check-up.

How long does a Dental Contact Lens last?

The durability of this type of treatment is very high, with an average of 93% success after 20 years of dental contact lenses in the mouth.

What equipment is used to make a Dental Contact Lens?

Here in our clinic we have German CEREC equipment that makes these porcelain slides with maximum precision. Teeth are prepared, scanned, milled and delivered without impressions, without prosthetic work and, most of the time, in just 1 appointment. Many patients from outside São Paulo, coming from other states and even other countries, come to us to have their dental contact lenses fitted in just one visit.

In addition to cutting-edge technology equipment, we count on the almost 40 years of experience of our clinical director, Dr. Elizabeth Manguino, a passionate and pioneer of Aesthetic Dentistry since her time at the USP School of Dentistry, together with her team: Dr. Ana Carolina Ugarte and Dr. Julio Serrasqueiro, postgraduates in Dentistry, specialists in Digital Prosthesis, with an emphasis on the aesthetic area. A well-tuned team, all graduated from USP, working together since 2014.

Schedule an evaluation and come realize your dream of having a wonderful smile with contact lenses.
